I would recommend unchecking "Use Internet Config" in the General section of Preferences and checking "Use passive mode transfers (PASV)" in the Firewall section. Does that help?

Lately I've started running into a lot of these errors.... It seems to hit at random -- but after the error, the only way to get it working again is to close the connection and re-open it. It's happening often enough that Fetch is now barely usable for me.
I can still FTP fine from the command line, it's only Fetch that isn't working right.
