I appear to have the problem listed on the homepage, only I don't have Norton Personal Firewall or Internet Security. I am connected through a router, but no firewall. I'm able to upload with WS_FTP on my Win98se machine without a problem. Using Fetch 4.02. If I try to upload a file- the dog keeps on running forever. Nothing else seems to change. How do I figure this out?- Thanks!

<<· Some users have reported problems uploading files after installing Norton Personal Firewall or Norton Internet Security on Mac OS X: the files were created on the server, but were empty. Users in this situation are advised to remove the "NortonPrivacyControl" folder from the StartupItems folder of the Library folder in their home directory. >>

Could you post the contents of the Fetch Transcript window after you have that problem? Also, could you post the transcript from WS_FTP?

    Thanks,

I need to jump in here because the same symptoms seem to be occurring to me. These happen to me on two separate ISP servers. I am using Mac OS 10.2 and Fetch 4.02. I am running on a braod band connection through a router.

I am trying to upload a large web page with hundreds of small html files. I have "automatic" set but I have tried it with "raw data" and "text". Looking at the status it always defaults to "text" when in "automatic". The symptom is that the transfer completes, but Fetch does not get a transfer complete message and sits there waiting. I have to abort the transfer. When I do, and look at the directory on the server using "View File List" or looking at the Fetch Transcript the file is on the server with the correct number of bytes. Here is a sample of the transcript. Note that after the last ABORT I tried to switch directories and got into some kind of state where Fetch could not see any directories at all. I disconnected, reconnected and verified that all the files were correctly sent.

dpruett: Your problem sounds different in that some of your transfers are working. Intermittent failures like that are hard to troubleshoot, since the source of the problem is something that comes and goes. One workaround is to use the Mirror Folder command to upload folders of files. If a transfer stops with an error running the mirror operation again lets you pick up where you left off.

    Thanks,

I will try what you suggest; however, the error is not intermittent. The upload fails on the same files every time.

I tried what you suggested. The transfer stops at the same file it stops in with just a transfer directory and contents command and then continues. It looks like it will stop at many of the files. FYI, the information in the right hand portion of the Fetch window is the following for the first file it has problems with:

    Status
    Putting file ...

    file
    ps01_003.htm
    Text file
    5,817 bytes

    Transfer
    5,835 bytes

Note that the file sixe is 5676 bytes

You might try uploading the files in question to the incoming directory of ftp.fetchsoftworks.com; leave the User ID and Password fields blank when you connect and ignore the "Permission denied" message when you enter the incoming directory.

p.s. the change in file size is due to the conversion of line endings.
