Password error (14 posts)

Fetch informs me that my password (to login to my server) is wrong. This seems weird to me since I can still login on my internetserver through internet (to check my account etc). I called 'telenet' (my internet provider) and they told me that I was using the right codes etc to do the upload.
    Anyone?

    Hi,

Is Fetch filling out the password for you automatically (from the keychain), or are you typing it in manually?

If Fetch is filling it in automatically, try typing the password in manually and see if that works. If it does, let us know and we'll tell you how to fix the keychain.

If typing it in manually doesn't work, please do the following: after you try to connect and you get the error message, choose Fetch Transcript from the Window menu, copy the entire contents of the transcript window, and paste them into a reply to this message.

    Thanks,

Here it is. Btw, I thought it was a problem with my internet provider, so I tried uploading on a different account, thus using other codes. But still the same problem

    Hi Phillip,

Thanks for the transcript. I don't see anything unusual going on.

Would it be possible to post a transcript from one of the Macs where you can log in with the same username and password successfully?

    Thanks,

    Hi Phillip,

I apologize, I misremembered your message and thought you'd said you'd tried it on another Mac, but I see you didn't.

But you were able to log in through a web browser, is that correct?

Have you been able to use Fetch with this server successfully on this Macintosh before?

    Thanks,

    Scott McGuire

    Hi Phillip,

Did the problem start when you upgraded to Fetch 5.2?

Try downloading Fetch 5.0.5 from our website and seeing if you have the same problem with it. You can download it with this link:

    http://fetchsoftworks.com/mdownload.php?filename=Fetch_5.0.5.dmg

You can keep both Fetch 5.0.5 and 5.2 on the same machine safely; just don't replace your copy of 5.2 by copy 5.0.5 to the Applications folder (copy it some place else).

    Thanks,

    Hi Phillip,

This is starting to sound like it may be a server problem.

This may sound odd, but try this:

Enter 195.130.132.86 into the hostname field, and then your username and password, and try connecting.

Then try entering 195.130.132.85 into the hostname field (note that the last digit is different), and then your username and passowrd, and try connecting.

    Do either of those work?

    Thanks,

    Hi Phillip,

I would try another FTP client, such as Interarchy, or Mac OS X's command-line client (open Terminal, and type ftp name-of-your-server), and see if you can connect successfully with one of them.

If you cannot, then it is a server problem, and you should contact your Internet provider again.

If they work when Fetch doesn't, please let us know.

    Thanks,

    Hi Phillip,

Okay, then it is almost certainly a problem on the server.

Good luck, and please let us know if we can be of further assistance.
