  I can connect but get a "permission Denied" error when I try to drop a file. Use Filezilla with no problems using the same process/ login credentials. Deleted old Fetch and tried upgrading to new version....same error.

  Hi Dean,

  We'd like some more information to help diagnose the problem. Could you please do the following?

  * Quit Fetch, if it's running.
  * Open Fetch again.
  * Connect to your server.
  * Try uploading again.
  * After you receive the error, go to the Window menu, and choose Fetch Transcript.
  * Copy the entire contents of the transcript window, and paste them into a reply to this message.

  We'll take a look and see if we can figure out what's going on.

  Hi Sonya,

  It looks like there's already a copy of the file named "sonyabuerck_dina_restoration_original.psd" on the server.

  What happens if you try deleting the copy that's already on the server, and then try uploading the file?

  I'm using fetch 5.6 and tried to access the site host at ftp.shaw.ca only to get a message that the address is not valid etc. Unless the world is way different suddenly, the address should be OK. I recently tried an upload and ran out of space for my website - could that be the trigger that causes the host to reject an incoming request to make a connection?

  Hi Jim,

  Upgrading to Fetch 5.6 should not suddenly cause you to be unable to connect to your server; we did not change the way Fetch connects to servers. Most likely there's a problem with the server or your hosting company that's causing the server to reject connections.

  You should contact the company that runs the server and ask them to look into the problem, and also verify that the hostname, username, and password you should be using, just in case they made some changes.

  Hello,

  I am having a denied persmission pop up on my fetch connection. I have another website that I use Fetch with and dont have this problem only with my new one that i am trying to setup. I am using Godaddy as a host and iweb 08 to create the website. same as the first one that i have. I contacted godaddy and they said everything is fine on there end. So please can someone help me.

  Hi Bryan and others: I've done some more checking about my problem. The address not valid message only occurs when fetch is trying to connect to a particular host. Fetch continues to work well on my other computer and can connect to the same or different hosts.

  So the problem is either the host is blocking FTP access from my computer or my computer is in some way not able to get rid of the setting in the program. I've talked to the hosting techie and he assures me that the problem has to be with my computer. I find that strange since Fetch continues to work well with every other server.

  I'm flummoxed

  Is the other computer that can connect successfully to the problem host in the same location as the computer that cannot connect successfully? That is, is it on the same network?

  If you could do the following, we'll take a look and see if we have any further suggestions or insights.

  * Quit Fetch.
  * Open Fetch again.
  * Try connecting to the problem server.
  * After you receive the error, go to the Window menu, and choose Fetch Transcript.

  Hi Scott: Problem solved. I have Virus Barrier X6 and it is just too complicated for my simple mind. The program scans for incoming messages and picks up the back and forth traffic during a FTP upload. The program quarantined the url from the server and blocked any attempt to re-establish the connection. Hence the message every time I tried to get back to the web server.

  The program also lets you put the url into a "trusted" list of urls. Problems are only simple after you solve them.

  I'd hate to open this thread again but I am having a similar issue and it's not associated with Virus Barrier X6. I am currently using Fetch 5.6. I am having permission issues. I can download from the server but when I upload I get a permission denied message. IT has checked my ftp account and assures me that I have the correct permissions. And get this, while trying to trouble shoot we used an open source product to upload the same file to the same folder on the server and it works. Using this open source app is not an option. I love Fetch and have been using it since v4. Is there something in the preference setup that could be causing this?

  Hi all,

  Last week I tried various methods to upload files for a client and after years of trouble free Fetching, I cant seem to upload my files. I have tried on 2 different mac's, I can download, I can create a folder, but when the files try to leave the system it seems to hang checking the log it comes up with "Access Denied" I spoke to the Administrators and even had other people using the same log in upload files and it just wont let me do it. What is interesting is the icon of the file, be it PDF or Html shows up with a 0 kb.

  UPDATE
  After 4 days of no success, I just logged in again and the files are going! Don't ask me, nothing different, I think there must have been a problem on the other side with the Administrators.

  Still, god to know why so anyone else gets caught. I will send an update if it comes to light.

  Hi Andy,

  Unfortunately, that looks like a problem with the server that problem only the hosting company can help sort out.

  (You might want to check and make sure you're not out of space in your account on the server; that can cause a "permission denied" error, but given that you're just trying to upload a small HTML file, that may not be it.)

  There is a file "127619263917356815_custom.css" which is preventing the upload from going through. Fetch says "because I do not have the required permissions."

  I contacted the tech support at our ISP and they were able to upload a ZIP package and successfully load it that way. They suggested trying a different FTP client. I thought I would contact you first since I don't have any experience with other FTP clients.

  I don't have any virus detection going on.

  Hi Dale,

  To be clear, the permission denied error is coming from the server, not Fetch; Fetch is just passing along the message. Fetch is asking the server to accept your file for upload, and the server is saying "I won't do that."

  The question is why you're getting an error. The test your ISP did isn't very useful, because uploading the files in a zip file is different from uploading them directly.

  I do see something that looks odd in your transcript, I'd like some more information to help figure out what might be going on.

  Are you uploading using the Fetch Put window, or are you uploading by dragging and dropping?

  I see that the file "all-source.xml" was uploaded successfully first. On your Mac, is it in the same folder as the "127619263917356815_custom.css" file? Is the "127619263917356815_custom.css" inside a folder named "content" on your Mac?

  I checked on the Adobe forum and found some others with similar problems.
  One suggestion was to use Fetch's "Put" command instead of dragging and dropping.
  That didn't help.

  I did discover that the template I was using out of Bridge CS5 named "HTML" seems to be the culprit. I chose another template and was able to upload.

  I know the ZIP upload doesn't help explain what was going on, but I needed to get the page live ASAP.

  As for the other folder "content" I have no idea what's going on there, since I drop my folder directly onto the destination.

  Thanks for the additional information.

  I don't have a copy of CS5 yet, but I will check and see if Bridge CS4 has a similar template and do some tests with it.

  The question I was trying to ask: does the set of files and folders exported by Bridge when you create the web gallery include a folder named "content" or not?

  Hi Dale,

  Answering my own question, now that I've done a test with Bridge CS4 - yes, I see there is a "content" folder in the files and folders it creates when exporting a web gallery.

  It looks like what happened is when Fetch tried to create that folder on the server, the server unexpectedly jumped to a completely different folder; this is why you got a permission error, because Fetch was no longer uploading to one of "your" folders.

  I tried uploading an "HTML" style website template created by Bridge to several of our test servers, and did not experience the same problem, so this is a server-specific issue. Its very odd behavior, and looks like it's the server's fault; but we'd like to investigate further to see if there's anything Fetch can do to cope.

  Thanks Scott. I'm going to get all of my information together and I'll consolidate it with an email to "bugs".

  I noticed that the HTML template is the only one that hangs up. I tried some of the other Flash based templates and they uploaded OK. I can live with that, but I wanted to try to see what can be done outside of Flash what with the Apple/Adobe Flash freeze-out.

  There is something fishy about the other content folder, though.

  Hi Dale,

  The reason the HTML template is the only one that has the problem is that it is the only one that generates a folder named "content" - and for some reason, your server does something odd when you try to upload a folder named "content".

  No need to bundle up your information for writing the email to the bugs address, unless you have more information you want to add; otherwise, you can just include a link to this message board topic in your email.

  As a follow up, Dale's problem was caused by a configuration setting on his server; his hosting provider changed the settings on his server and this seems to have resolved the problem.
