Problem uploading now that Yahoo requires SFTP (7 posts)

I put this on another thread, but it didn't quite fit that situation, so... I can connect to my site files just fine, and I can "Get" files with no problem; however, I cannot "Put" anything. As soon as I ask it to "Put", it gives me a window with my desktop files and freezes. The Put button looks live, but since I don't want to put my desktop up, I have been afraid to click on it. Nothing else responds. I can't move from the desktop to the folder I want to publish, I can't get rid of (Cancel) the window wanting all the files on my desktop, and I can't close either that window or the main file list window behind it. Nothing. Nada. All I can do is quit Fetch, and try again. And again. And again, and again again...

It's not a firewall issue, I've double-checked all the instructions from both yahoo and Fetch about switching from ftp to FTPS (unless I'm supposed to change my login from ftp.domainname.org to ftps.domainname.org? That's about the only thing I haven't tried yet. Help?

    Hi Patti,

First of all, are you able to drag files to the Fetch transfer (instead of using the Put button)? Please check to see if that would work as a temporary work-around. Then we can try to figure out why Put isn't working for you.

    Thanks,

p.s. Yahoo is switching to FTPS. FTPS is not the same thing as SFTP (it's confusing, I know).

No, I've never tried dragging files, but I'll check out the instructions and see if that will work. I presume I'd have to drag those files one at a time rather than just telling it to put the whole folder?

Um... yes. No idea what either FTPS or SFTP are, but I think I was following the instructions for FTPS - and everything worked just as described, right up until I wanted to put something up.

Thanks for the quick response. I'll try dragging and see what happens. :)

Update - that worked! Yay! I'll just use that for a work-around, although if you come up with an answer to the other, I'd be interested in hearing it.

I'm glad that worked. You can drag as many files and folders at once as you want.

Now to troubleshoot the Put problem: what version of Fetch are you running (choose About Fetch from the Fetch menu to see the version number)? And what version of OS X (choose About this Mac from the Apple menu)?

    Thanks,

Sorry, just saw this reply. I'm using Mac OS X 10.7.4 And whatever the newest upgrade to Fetch is. It looks like it's 5.7.2, although that isn't what shows up in my about Fetch space. I think maybe I was trying to use the old version. Could that cause the problem? Let me work on getting rid of the older versions of Fetch floating around on my dock and see what that does. I'll recontact you if I'm still having issues. The dragging work around is working, although every time I allow Fetch to sit around and disconnect, I have to close it and reopen to begin again. That never used to happen.

ETA - it looks like it's going to work properly now that I've trashed the older version. Thanks for your help!
