Problems Connecting Fetch to Server (6 posts)

I recently bought Fetch for the first time as I am building a website - I am new to all this.

I typed in all the correct info and I can't seem to get past the connection stage:

    1. hostname
    2. username
    3. connect using
    4. password

I spoke to my ISP and he said: "If Fetch is unable to connect then you probably have some sort of
firewall software or hardware blocking your outgoing FTP connections.

Ok - so then I went into System Preference / sharing - in the services section and checked FTP access... I restarted my Mac and I still was not able connect Fetch to my server.

    What to do?

    Hi,

We'd like some more information to help diagnose the problem.

After you try to connect and you get the error message, could you please choose Fetch Transcript from the Window menu, copy the entire contents of the transcript window, and paste them into a reply to this message?

We'll take a look and try to figure out what's going on.

    Thanks,

Thank you for your quick reply.

I've copied the text from the windows / Fetch Transcript like advised.

    Here it is:

    Hi Billie,

    Thanks for the transcript.

We have a couple of more questions for you.

How do you connect to the Internet - that is, what equipment is involved? Do you know if you have a router, or are you set up for wireless?

Also, if you open the Terminal program (in the Finder, go to the Go menu, choose Utilities, and then open Terminal in the Utilities folder), then type:

    ftp ftp.czetka.com.au

Do you get a prompt for a username or not? Or do you get an error?

    Thanks,

    Hi Scott

My host also suggested I have my Internet Service Provider and also the people that supply my router for my ADSL - unblock all ports. As he was also baffled why I could connect Fetch to Server.

After unblocking all ports with 2 companies - I restarted my computer and Fetch still didn't connect.

My host then suggested I type a few trial hostnames, ie: ftp.iinet.net.au - and they got connected - which was strange - first sign of life. Now we had to work out my mine info wasn't connecting?

    1. hostname
    2. username
    3. connect using
    4. password

My host thought this was unusual and got back to me a few minutes later and said for me to try again this time. I tried again with all my details and it worked. Looks like the server was down. I don't think the server was down for the whole 2-3 days - it may have just happened at the time we were problem solving with my ISP and router providers. When I spoke to my ISP he said that it would not have helped to unblock all ports - so perhaps it was the router that was blocking ports as well as the server.

    Problem Solved!!!

    Cheers, Billie
