Fetch application logoFetch

required permission to download to local folder (11 posts)

When I attempt to openFetch after installation, I get an error message that says: "The action could not be completed because you do not have the required permissions to download to your local folder. (Try choosing a different folder from the “Save downloaded files to” menu in the Download pane of the Preferences".

This is not possible to do because I cannot open Fetch and check the preferences. I have checked the path for downloads and User:Library:Prefs and all seem to be available to everyone.

Anyone run across this problem, find a solution?

    Thanks.

    Hi,

I would try deleting your Fetch preferences file. Here's how:

    1) In the Finder, choose "Go to Folder…" from the Go menu
    2) Enter:

    ~/Library/Preferences

    and click Go
    3) Find the file named com.fetchsoftworks.Fetch.plist and drag it to the Trash
    4) Open Fetch

If you still see the problem I would recommend deleting your Internet Config preferences files. To find them, follow steps 1-3 above, and look for files that start "com.apple.internetconfig" (there may be com.apple.internetconfig.plist and com.apple.internetconfigpriv.plist). Drag them to the trash, and try opening Fetch.

Do you still see the problem after following these steps?

    Thanks,

    Hi Jim,

    Thanks for you help.

IN past efforts, I had removed the prefs but not the internet config files. I have removes all of them now, actually anything that is connected to Fetch that I can find (com.fetchsoftworks.Fetch, etc.), and I still have the error.

I have also removed the app and re-installed it from the latest version.

Not sure if this matters, but this is a trial version.

    Thanks.

Thanks for trying that. Could you send me your Fetch.log file? That would help me figure out exactly what is causing the error. To find Fetch.log:

    1) In the Finder, choose "Go to Folder…" from the Go menu
    2) Enter:

    ~/Library/com.fetchsoftworks.Fetch/Logs

    and click Go

You can send it to us using the form at http://fetchsoftworks.com/fetch/feedback

    Thanks,

I am getting the same error message. I cannot edit a shortcut nor open the connection to the server. None of my remote settings have changed. I noticed that you have asked for the log file but I do not see where I can attach it. the last one is dated July of 2015.
