  Is it at all possible to create a script to scan for the newest files and download them based on the exif metadata embedded into the file?

  I can't think of a way to do that. Unfortunately the FTP and SFTP protocols don't let Fetch query the exif metadata of a file on a server. Fetch would need to download the files and then look at the exif metadata, which would defeat the purpose.
