    HI ALL, I hope that I can get an answer to my problem. I am sending photos to a newspaper FTP and they say they are NOT getting them, I am new to using this type of transfer, but I can connect to their FTP, I have all the proper passwords, etc... so that is not the problem. I am sending the photos from Aperture3. Can anyone help? I need to solve this issue ASAP.

    Thanks,
    George

    Hi George,

    Are using built-in FTP of Aperture, or an FTP plug-in for Aperture, to upload the photos? Or are you using Fetch to upload the photos?

    Thanks,

    Hi George,

    Okay. So when you try to upload them with Fetch, you see a progress bar and time remaining indicator, and then the upload completes without error, is that correct? Or are you receiving an error?

    If you aren't getting an error, what happens if you close the Fetch transfer window, reconnect, go to the View menu, and choose Refresh? Do you see the names of the photos you uploaded listed in the Fetch window?

    Thanks,

    HI Scott,
    I do not get an error message at all. I can see the FTP server on my screen, I watch the file upload (blue circle) and then I see the file on the FTP server site, under the listing "freelance". Yet when the people on the other end try to open it, they say it is not there. I have the settings for the FTP - finder, and the SFTP - Fetch. Is this correct?

    Hi George,

    The "default FTP and SFTP application" settings are not related to whether uploads or downloads work, so those settings are fine.

    I understand that the photo appears in the listing after you upload it.

    However, what happens if you quit Fetch, and then reconnect to the server - do you still see the photo listed?

    Thanks,

    HI Scott,

    I will try that tonite when I get home, also, in one instance, I sent a jpeg to the server and it was uploaded as a document. Did I maybe hit the wrong key? I will get back to you later and hopefully we can solve this issue, as it is very important I get this cleared up.
    Thanks,
    George

    Hi George,

    Okay, that sounds good. I just want to make sure you can see the files again after you upload them; if you can't that might say something about what is going on.

    Actually, here's what you should instead of my previous instructions:

    * Quit Fetch, if it's running.
    * Open Fetch again.
    * Connect to your server.
    * Upload a photo.
    * When the upload finishes, go to the View menu, and choose Refresh.
    * Do you still see the photo in the file list?

    One thing you should check is if you are using the Put dialog to upload files, you should make sure that the setting of the "If a file already exists:" menu is "Replace existing file". Do not use "Pick a different name". (If you're uploading by drag and drop, this is not an issue.)

    Thanks,

    HI Scott,

    I uploaded the file to the server, i had the settings as you said, and also hit refresh after the upload, and the file is still on the server list. I will e-mail them and find out if they got it. Chat with you again on Thursday. Thanks for all your help.

    Hi George,

    Okay, it sounds like the files are getting there and staying there after you upload them, so that's good.

    This may be as simple as you're uploading them to one folder on the server, and they're looking for the photos in another folder on the server. (This can happen if there are two folders with the same name but in different places on the server.)

    Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.

    Thanks,

    Hi Scott,
    They are still saying that they are NOT getting the picture in the Freelance file. What could I possibly be doing wrong?
    Please help.

    Hi Scott,
    The server wants to know if I am in the "passive" mode. They said that sometimes it will seem like it went through, but it didn't.

    Hi George,

    If the picture is still listed after you using the Refresh command (which makes Fetch ask the server to send it a list of the files that are on the server at that very moment), then we're pretty sure it went through.

    If a server doesn't support passive mode, that usually results in problems connecting or starting an upload; we have never heard of it causing files to claim they were uploaded successfully when they weren't.

    Nevertheless, we can tell you which mode Fetch is using if you send us a Fetch transcript, which is a record of Fetch's conversation with the server. We'll also take a look at the transcript to see if we see any potential problems that we might have missed so far.

    Please do the following:

    * Quit Fetch, if it's running.
    * Open Fetch again.
    * Connect to your server.
    * Upload a photo again.
    * When the upload is complete, go to the View menu, and choose Refresh.
    * Then go to the Window menu, and choose Fetch Transcript.
    * Copy the entire contents of the transcript window, and paste them into a reply to this message.

    Thanks,

    Hi Scott,

    I was in contact with the server, the picture went through. I think it was an error on my part, I noticed on the login page in the box marked initial folder, I did not fully add "/editorial/freelance". I added the freelance part, sent a picture, and so far all is well. I would like to thank you for your help and patience with this issue.
    Thanks Again,
    George
