    1. So who is 'group' ? Shall I check those checkboxes?

    2. I thought if I don't want others to enter my ftp I should not check any checkbox but those for 'Owner' but the site is blocked from viewing on the browser and so I also checked 'Everyone' - Read and Search/Execute and the site can be viewed. How exactly to do to block people from viewing my files in my ftp?

Hope my questions are clear and please help!! Thanks.

It's possible to make different accounts on the server members of a group, for example if you were working on a shared project and wanted to allow access to each others files. Usually you would set the Group permissions the same as the Everyone permissions.

Files have to be readable and searchable by Everyone in order to be viewable over the web. If you don't want a file to be viewable by others you would uncheck those boxes.

I hope this answers your questions,

But if I only checked the "Read" box for "Everyone" without "Search/Execute", will "Everyone" still be able to view the page on the web at any time?

Yes, pages should still be readable without the Search/Execute bit, but I'd try it to be sure.

    Thanks,

By the way, what does "Execute" mean in the context of Fetch?

Also, when I don't check the "Search/Execute" for "Everyone", I sometimes get a "423 Locked" message while navigating back and forth within the site I uploaded. Does this "423 Locked" status has anything to do with my "Set Permission" selections?

Execute permission isn't relevant in the context of Fetch; it means that the file can be run as a program if you have a terminal session with the server.

I don't think it has anything to do with the 423 error you've seen.

    Thanks,
