Shortened Directory Names (8 posts)

    I have just gotten a new server for my site, and i am having problems with backing out of directories.

    First, i need to put all data in a directory called "htmldocs" but once i am in the directory, the path shows "ldocs" so i cant back out into the cgibin and such.

    Second, if i go into ANY sub directory on the server, all is well, unless i try to back out.. If i am ONE directory down, the message is "NO SUCH DIRECTORY OR FILE EXISTS." Since there really is NO "ldocs" directory.

    And if i am TWO or more directories deep then the message is....
    "The Server does not believe you have permission to take that action."

    The new tech support folks are obviously PC based, and so, their answer is "Call Fetch it must be their problem."

    Can you help me?

    Could you post the contents of the Fetch Transcript window after you get the error? Choose "Fetch Transcript" from the Window menu to reveal the window. Hopefully the information there will let me figure out what is going on.

    Here is the second scenario where i suppposedly do not have PERMISSION.
    this is TWO levels deep. I am beginning to think that ALL have to do with the changing name to "ldocs"

    The server is incorrectly reporting the name of the htmldocs directory as "ldocs". One possible workaround is to type cmd-up-arrow to go up a directory level. You might also report this problem to the server administrator.

    I feel like i am caught in the hell between a rock and a hard place...
    I want to be able to continue to use FETCH, i love it.. but...
    here is the response i got from my new server...

    and i tried this on another computer in my office that has Version#3.0.3 and the version i have on my computer is 4.0.2 and IDENTICAL problems happen on each system.. therefore a REINSTALL would not work per their suggestion....
    HELP!!!!

    IS there any possibility that i could hook you up to talk with them, to help me the one trapped in the middle...????

    As it turns out... yesterday they contacted me, after my final plea to not be stuck in the middle, yesterday, a Mac person there was able to duplicate the issue. Whopee.
    I am not sure what or how they resolved it, but i now have a mirrored site in a htdocs directory, and no longer have problems backing out of anything.

    Thanks for hangin in with me, clearly it did turn out to be a server issue.
