    Fetch 4.0.3 works great except when I try to connect to a Cobalt RaQ, in which case Fetch gets stuck on "Getting file list." Here's the transcript:

    230 User webmaster logged in.
    SYST
    215 UNIX Type: L8
    PWD
    257 "/users/webmaster" is current directory.
    MACB ENABLE
    500 MACB not understood.
    PWD
    257 "/users/webmaster" is current directory.
    PASV
    227 Entering Passive Mode (216,54,69,21,13,178).
    LIST
    421 No Transfer Timeout (300 seconds): closing control connection.
    ftp_list: -30001 (state == GETTING_LIST)
    QUIT
    send_cmd():con_conn->Putline() returns -3155

    Could someone help me decipher this?

    Thanks!

    Is the server protected by a firewall? That could explain the problem. Can you connect if you uncheck "Use passive mode transfers (PASV)" in the Firewall section of Preferences.

    Thanks,

    Wow thanks for the promy reply.

    I've tried toggling "Use passive mode transfers (PASV)" but it did not work either way. The server administrator tells me the server is protected by a firewall, but it hasn't changed since we were using Fetch in OS 9. Must have something to do with OS X? I also made sure the firewall was turned of on my machine. Grr.

    Could you post a transcript of a failure with PASV turned off? Can you connect to other servers (like ftp.fetchsoftworks.com -- leave User ID and Password blank) with PASV turned off?

    Thanks,

    With PASV turned off, I cannot connect to ftp.fetchsoftworks.com.

    Here's the transcript from my attempt to connect to the Cobalt RaQ with PASV turned off:

    230 User webmaster logged in.
    SYST
    215 UNIX Type: L8
    PWD
    257 "/users/webmaster" is current directory.
    MACB ENABLE
    500 MACB not understood.
    PWD
    257 "/users/webmaster" is current directory.
    PORT 208,130,34,29,246,205
    421 No Transfer Timeout (300 seconds): closing control connection.
    ftp_list: -30001 (state == GETTING_LIST)
    QUIT
    send_cmd():con_conn->Putline() returns -3155

    Don't know if it helps, but here's a transcript of another connection attempt that worked with PASV turned off:

    Connecting to 204.111.100.113 port 21 (8/31/04 9:45:46 AM)
    220 swordfish Microsoft FTP Service (Version 5.0).
    USER naropasg
    331 Password required for naropasg.
    PASS
    230 User naropasg logged in.
    SYST
    215 Windows_NT version 5.0
    PWD
    257 "/" is current directory.
    MACB ENABLE
    500 'MACB ENABLE': command not understood
    SITE DIRSTYLE
    200 MSDOS-like directory output is off
    PWD
    257 "/" is current directory.
    PORT 208,130,34,29,191,87
    200 PORT command successful.
    LIST
    150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for /bin/ls.

    (contents of directory)

    226 Transfer complete.

    Thanks.

    Are you sure that the OS X firewall is turned off? To check, choose "System Preferences" from the Apple menu, click on the Sharing icon, then on the Firewall tab.

    Thanks,
