    Hi,

The "Edit" command in Fetch has a specific function - when you edit a file, Fetch opens it in the selected editor application so you can make changes to it, and then when you save the file in the application, it saves your changes back to the server instead of to your local hard drive.

Only certain applications include support for saving the file back to the server via Fetch, so Fetch only lists those applications as choices for editing applications. If you do not have any of those editors installed on your Macintosh, the text editor preference will say "None."

Two good, free text editors that support Fetch's Edit command are TextWrangler from Bare Bones Software or Smultron.

Other popular editors that support the Fetch Edit command are BBEdit, SubEthaEdit, TextMate, CSSEdit, and Page Spinner.

You should download and install one of these, run the text editor once, and then Fetch will list it a choice in the Obscure Preferences pane.

Please let us know if you have further questions.

    Thanks,
