trouble uploading small files(?) with 5.7.1 (7 posts)

BTW, I have a laptop with the same version of Fetch (5.7.1) and the same OS (10.6.8) and it does not have this problem! I made sure all Fetch and System settings were the same between the two machines but it did not help. Crazy man!
I'm thinking that some deep, dark system preference that has to do with FTP needs to be delete from my desktop.

I see that there's already a file called barry_new.html. Does it make any difference if you delete it before trying to upload a new copy?

I'm afraid it makes no difference; I've tried deleting the old one before uploading. Each upload attempt leaves a new version of the file with a size of 0K.

Thanks for trying that. One other thing to try is uploading the barry_new.html file in Binary format (choose Remote > Format > Binary before uploading). Does that work?

Humm. After pulling out my hair for several weeks, the problem seems to have completely vanished--at least for this evening. Uploads of all files seem lightning fast, regardless of upload format. It's all beyond me. Thanks for your assistance just the same.

I've been using Fetch for many years, using the same web server and maintaining the same website. For at least a few weeks now, when I try to upload *small* files (don't know exact cut-off, but something like < 100K) Fetch hangs with the running dog. Strangely, larger files seem to upload fine. Pasted below is a Fetch Transcript where I first successfully upload a file called "old_whatsNew.html" (968K) and then hang while uploading a file called "barry_new.html" (8K). I've contacted my web server (Network Solutions) but they say it is definitely not their problem. I can actually upload small files ok with their web tool, but it is no Fetch.
I have "Use Passive Mode" turned on in the Fetch preferences and also in Mac OS 10.6.8 Network->Advanced->Proxies>Use Passive mode (checked). Also, I've got the Firewall off.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
