I've downloaded the trial version of fetch, and I'm trying to upload my website through dreamweaver, via fetch etc. It asks me for my FTP login and FTP password...where do I get that? I've been looking all over fetch to see where I register so, I'm wondering, do I only get to register once I've pruchased it? I just don't want to spend money and still be frustrated with this...thanks!

    Hi,

Have you signed up with a company that provides a server for you to upload your website to?

Fetch is a tool for transferring files from your Macintosh to another computer, usually a server provided by an Internet service provider or a web hosting company. Fetch does not provide a service, or servers, for storing your website. So your FTP login and password are not related to registering Fetch.

Assuming you have a service provider that is providing you with a server to hold your website, they should be able to tell you the information you need to connect - the hostname of the server, the username you need to connect with (the FTP login), and your password. They may have sent you this information when you signed up for their service.

I hope this clarifies things, please let us know if you have further questions.

    Thanks,

Yea, I signed up with godaddy.com and, after I sifted through the million confirmation emails I got from them, I saw that, yes, they have provided a server. Even now though, I've entered in the proper name, password, etc and it's still not working. Back to the drawing board I guess. Thanks for your reply though..it's making more sense to me now

    Hi,

If you want to post a transcript from your attempt to connect to the server, we may be able to figure out what the problem is.

To do this, after you try to connect and you get the error message, choose Fetch Transcript from the Window menu, copy the entire contents of the transcript window, and paste them into a reply to this message. (Don't worry, your password will not be included in this information.)

We'll take a look and see if we have any suggestions.

    Thanks,
