using iWeb with two sites (7 posts)

    Hi there,

Thanks for your advice yesterday. GoDaddy were also helpful and I got the connection.

My problem now is that I have uploaded my files for my website www.db8eigo.com but nothing is showing when I type the URL into Safari other than 'Not Found'.

I wonder if the problem could be that I have made two sites on iWeb but only want to upload one of them (the other is already up and running on me.com). Is there anyway around this? Or am I missing something?

    Thanks again for your time.

    Hi Stephen,

iWeb assumes that even if you have two "sites" you want to upload them to the same server - so while using it to create multiple sites and then uploading just one of them to a server can usually be done successfully, it is not really how iWeb is designed to be used.

Here is what I believe you should be doing in order to make it work.

When you have two sites in iWeb, and then use the Publish to a Folder command, you will end up with a folder that contains the following:

    My Websites
      index.html (file)
    NameOfSite1 (folder)
    NameOfSite2 (folder)

If you want to upload Site #2 to your server, you should upload the contents of the "NameOfSite2" folder, but not the "NameOfSite2" folder itself.

So, open up the "NameOfSite2" folder, and upload everything you find inside it. (You should see a variety of html files, including another "index.html" file and a bunch of subfolders - upload everything exactly as you find it there.)

    I hope this helps.

    Thanks,

You can have 1 or 2 or 5 websites that are independent of each other all created in iweb.
You can upload each of them to there respective sites through fetch.
I created a folder on my desktop and entitled it "hosting".
In the hosting folder I created a folder for each website that I created.
I then go into my user folder in the finder and go to libraries and then I go to the iweb folder. There you will find the current domain file for the current website your working on. You take it out of the iweb folder and place it in the folder you created in the hosting folder on your desktop. Then when you save your site for that website you save it to the folder inside the hosting folder.
When you want to work on that particular site you go to the folder in your hosting folder and click on the domain file and it will open iweb and you can work on that site.
You can do this with each website you create in iweb.
I work on 20 sites at the moment and do it all in iweb.
Good luck and if you have any questions feel free to email me.

I can't find the iweb domain folder you are talking about. I go to users, then my name, then library, then...? Can you help me out?
    Thanks.

I am experiencing the same problem

I have looked for the folder iweb under libraries but it is not there.

The rest of the files are located under a folder named Sites

But, there are no files there named Domain.

Been trying to figure this one out for a couple of days. Would love some advice.

    Thanks in advance

    Dear Doc,

I understand the different folders for creating the web pages, but then, when you want to publish them, how does that work?

I have 2 different urls that I want to publish to, but I only want to use a single me.com account (together, they do not exceed the space allowance). My domains are registered through (unfortunately) godaddy.com.

I am using Leopard and iLife 08.

THANK YOU so much for any help you might be able to offer me. I'm a teacher - not a programmer and just want to offer info to my colleagues and students.

    Much appreciation!

    Hi debinkeyna,

I do not believe you can host two different domains on a me.com account. You can only direct one domain (URL) to your me.com website, as far as I know.

However, this is really more a question for Apple, since they run the me.com servers.

    Good luck,
