I have a web developer on Mac OS 10.3.1 who cannot connect to our ISP provider AIT (www.AIT.com). AIT recommends Fetch software, but I suspect they require special setup. I called AIT, and their copy of Fetch had expired, so not much help there and could not duplicate problem. Any help would be appreciated. The error message she gets is 'Data Connection Cannot be Opened'.

    Hi,

First, in Fetch, your web developer should make sure the "Use passive mode transfers" checkbox in the Preferences is checked. It's in the General pane in Fetch 5, and in the Proxy pane in Fetch 4. If it's unchecked, they should check it and try connecting again.

If that doesn't work, they should see if the Mac OS X firewall is turned on, and if it is, try turning it off. (Go to the Mac OS X System Preferences, click the Sharing icon, click the Firewall tab, and click the Stop button if it says "Firewall On.") Then they should try connecting again.

If neither of those works, we'd like to see the Fetch transcript to figure out what's going on. After they try to connect and get the error message, they should choose Fetch Transcript from the Window menu, and copy the entire contents of the transcript window. Then paste it here, and we'll take a look at it.

    Thanks,
