Where do I enter DSA private key for connecting via sftp? (2 posts)

My server requires SSH and the use of DSA keys. I have generated these keys, but cannot find where to enter the required key in the Fetch connection settings.

    My server is siteground.

    Please advise.

    Thank you.

    Hi,

You do not need to enter the key in Fetch. Fetch will automatically take advantage of any key that is available to OpenSSH. Typically you would put the key in the .ssh folder in your home folder.

To test whether your key is set up correctly, open Terminal (found in the Utilities folder) and type:

    ssh username@hostname

where hostname is the server you are connecting to, and username is the name of your account on that server. If the key is set up correctly, you will not be prompted for a login password (you may be prompted for a passphrase to decrypt the key, if it is encrypted).

Once that works you should be able to connect in Fetch no matter what you put in the Password field, so you can enter a dummy value there.

Let me know if that doesn't help.
