why is www. needed & sometimes not? (2 posts)

  hiyaz,
  why is www. required to get access to some sites & other times it's not needed? Also sometimes EITHER (with or without www.) will allow a site to come up...always wondered why & curious to know why..

  Hi,

  Whether you need a www in front of a domain name/web address or not usually depends on how the web server and domain name setup have been configured.

  I'm afraid I don't know the specifics of exactly what one does to either require it or not.
