Fetch on Lion by Jim Matthews

We are pleased to report that Fetch 5.6, the current release, works well with Mac OS X 10.7 Lion.

We have identified two compatibility issues that may affect some users:

  • The Fetch Dashboard Widget does not work under Lion, and we recommend that users use droplet shortcuts instead.
  • Due to a bug in Automator in Lion, users may see -1708 errors when opening or saving Automator workflows including certain combinations of Fetch Automator actions. We have reported this problem to Apple, and hope it will be addressed in a future system update.

  • Hi… I’m getting a new Mac! And will have Lion. Have been reading the comments and not sure what “we recommend that users use droplet shortcuts instead” means. Have always used from the dock. I love Fetch! Makes it all so easy peasy. Thanks and have a good day. Julie

  • Hi Julie,

If you are using the Fetch Dashboard Widget, we recommend that you use droplet shortcuts instead, but if you aren’t using the widget you can keep doing things the way you have.

For more information on droplet shortcuts, see:

  • I have installed Lion which makes it so I can’t use fetch. I would not have done this for all the software I can’t use. Is there an upgrade with Fetch that does not have a fee?

    Beth November 6, 2011
  • Hi Beth,

From our records it appears that you have a license for Fetch 4. To get a version of Fetch that will run on Lion you would need to purchase an upgrade (for $10). Please contact http://fetchsoftworks.com/fetch/feedback with any questions.

  • I’m finding 5.7 very unstable under Lion 7.2: repeatedly crashes on opening on when opening directories. Managed one upload in five crashes.
