    Hi there,

I have downloaded FTP file sharing software on two computers now and yet when users try to send me files they keep getting the same error message. They are able to connect to the FTP servers, I am now trying Fetch, but every time they do the error message '550 permission denied' keeps popping up. I've tried fiddling with the settings, making sure it's not 'read only' etc. and there are no IP limits or anything, but nothing seems to fix this problem. It's driving me nuts, PLEASE HELP!!!!!

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Klay,

I have to questions to help us understand the problem.

You've set up an FTP server on your computers, is that correct?

Which software are you using for your server software?

You tell people to upload files to one of the servers, but they get an error "550 permission denied" when they try, is that correct?

Can you upload files to the servers successfully, or do you get the same errors?

    Thanks,

    Hi Scott,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I've downloaded FTP servers on two computers. I'm using Fetch on one and I have Serv-U on the other. I've had a number of problems with Serv-U which is why I tried downloading Fetch on my partner's Mac but am encountering the same problem.

I have told people to connect to my server by giving them the domain name, user name and password but, while they seem to connect to the server, they are unable to upload files as they get the '550 permission denied' error message.

This may be a bit stupid...but I don't have client FTP software and I'm not sure how to test whether I can successfully upload files.

Hope this helps in figuring out the problem. Let me know if you need anymore info!

    Thanks Scott,

    Klay

    Hi Klay,

Actually, Fetch is just an FTP client, not FTP server software. So I'm not sure which server software you may be running on the Mac, but it's not Fetch.

I guess the best I can suggest is that you contact the Serv-U server software support and see if they can help you figure out what the problem might be.

If I've misunderstood the situation, please let me know.

    Thanks,
