I'm trying to transfer files to my website server for the first time, but am having trouble. I can connect just fine, but when I try to put or get I get the error message, "Server response: index.htm: Access is denied." The tech guy at my server says that I should have all the permissions I need to transfer files. Below is the transcript for when I double clicked on the root folder on the server and then when I tried to drag a file to the root server. Can you help?

The server is saying that you don't have permission to enter the www folder. I would show the transcript to the server guy; something needs fixing on that end.

    Thanks,

Hi, Jim. I checked with my server guy and this is what he said, "I checked your post on the fetch site and saw the ftp log you included. I was then able to recreate your problem exactly. The problem is with the "remote site folder" setting. The server requires you indicate what folder you want to be logged into during the login process. In WS_FTP Pro that setting is on "Startup" tab of the "Site Options" window. To get that window, click on FILE, CONNECT, then click on the ftp account you created for your site and then EDIT. Click on "Startup" tab. In the "Remote site folder" field put demarsmedia.com. That will make it work."

I had downloaded the WS_FTP for my pc and that did make it work, but I prefer to work on the mac. I wasn't able to locate a similar setting in Fetch. Is there such a setting?

Yes. You can put "demarsmedia.com" in the "Initial directory" field of the New Connection dialog (click the triangle control to reveal it), or if you are using a shortcut you would edit the shortcut to have "demarsmedia.com" in the Directory field. Please let me know (and post a transcript) if that does not work.

    Thanks,

Thank you, Jim. I hadn't noticed that triangle thing in the new connection box. You are a Fetch god.
