Hi Steve,
What version of Fetch do you have, and what version of Smultron?
Thanks,

Jim -- Thanks to your asking me which version of Smultron I was using, I checked the App Store, and sure enough, there was an update! Smultron 4.1 fixed the auto save to server bug, so all is good! Thanks very much for the hint! Steve D.

I am having the same problem, I was previously using the 5.3.1 version of fetch and smultron 4.1, I contacted the developer of Smultron and he said that it did not work for him either.. he said
"I have checked this now further and yes, there seems to be something wrong with how Fetch works. All other FTP-apps I have tested works with Smultron 4 and Smultron 4 saves the file just as it should in the temporary location but Fetch does not seem to notice it. Contact the developers of Fetch to see if they know what could be wrong."Before coming on here I upgraded to the latest version of Fetch 5.7, I am using the demo version as I do not want to pay the 10dollars to upgrade if it does not work.
Anyway, the latest version of Fetch does not automatically save to the server for me

Fetch 5.7
Smultron 4.1
10.7.2Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated, as I do not want to pay to upgrade if it does not work..

I may add that I would prefer to use Fetch over transmit any day.. The only problem is that smultron 4 works fine with transmit and autosaves to the server perfectly.. Please help, I would like to continue to use fetch, but it is rather impossible atm

Thanks for that report. I've purchased Smultron 4.1, and I am seeing two problems:
1. When I edit a file, Smultron labels it as "locked"
2. If I unlock the file and save a change, Fetch does not upload the changed fileI will investigate these issues further, and report back with what I find.
Thanks,
Jim Matthews

Strange. Once I upgraded to Smultron 4.1, Fetch 5.7 worked fine when saving files via Smultron (though I did have to 'unlock' the files). For the record, I'm running the latest version of Lion (10.7.2) on a 3 year-old iMac.

Hi fb,
Could you try downloading a test version of Fetch from:
http://getfetch.com/misc/Fetch-5H360-user.dmg
and let me know if it fixes the problem you are seeing with Smultron 4.1 on Lion?
Thanks,
Jim Matthews

Ok downloaded...
I have to unlock the file in Smultron, but after doing that it saves automatically to the server!!!Great!! I will update shortly...
Although it would be nice if you could explain Is there any reason why it is only the Smultron/Fetch combo that asks me to unlock the file
I do not get this on Smultron/transmit for some reason??
ps thank you for taking the time to resolve this so quickly, so many other "Developers" really do not care!! Atb

Hi fb,
The file is locked because Smultron supports Lion's new Auto-Save behavior, and by default Lion will lock Auto-Saved files that were last modified more than 2 weeks ago. I think the idea is to keep you from accidentally modifying an "old" file that you did not mean to change (since, with Auto-Save, any change is saved without any action on your part).
You can control this behavior in a couple ways. If you go to the Time Machine pane of System Preferences and click Options..., you will see a "Lock documents [2 weeks] after last edit" checkbox. You can uncheck it to turn off the locking behavior altogether, or change the time period.
Alternatively, you can open the Preferences window in Smultron and uncheck the "Auto save" checkbox.
As for why you do not see this behavior in Transmit, I suspect that is because Transmit does not preserve the file modification date when it downloads the file for editing. So to Lion the file looks like it was just modified. We could change Fetch to do the same, but my current thinking is that it's a good idea to preserve the modification date.
I hope this information is helpful. I am indebted to Peter Borg, the author of Smultron, for his explanation of how Smultron works with Auto-Save.

When I save changes to my html editor (Smultron 4), the changes do not save automatically, even though I have the format set to "Automatic". I have to download the file to my desktop, save the changes, then upload the file manually via "Put". Any help would be much appreciated.
