Automatic File Download (Get) (6 posts)

Every time I log in to a certain server with Fetch, it automatically downloads (gets) one specific file from the server to my desktop. I haven't created an Automator workflow or other preference (that I know of) and I have no idea why this is happening. It's not a critical problem (I just trash the unwanted file) but it is annoying to not know why this is happening. This only happens when I use Fetch. If I log in to the server directly and go to the File Manager everything is normal (no auto download). I am using Fetch version 5.3.1 with Mac OS 10.4.11

Any ideas, advice, comments, or help in solving this problem would be sincerely appreciated.

    Hi,

That's pretty wild! I'd love to help figure out what is going on.

Do you launch Fetch by opening the Fetch app directly, or by clicking on a saved shortcut?

    Thanks,

    Hi Jim,

I click on a saved shortcut, and as soon as the connection to the host server is established, the same file is downloaded automatically every time.

My guess is that the shortcut points to that file. Next time you connect, make sure that no files are selected in the file list, and then choose "Save Droplet Shortcut..." from the File menu. Overwrite the old shortcut with the new one, and use that shortcut to start Fetch.

    Does that fix the problem?

    Thanks,

    Hello again Jim,

You were right on... problem fixed!!

Somehow I inadvertently highlighted a file when I previously saved the shortcut. I edited the shortcut to remove the file and now everything is back to normal.

Thanks a bunch for your help.. I really appreciate it!

I'll leave the last word to you....
