I am trying to get automator to find folders inside of the first level of folders that will find anything older than a month and then move them or delete them. I just cant delete the main folders which would be our customers names. I seem to have everything correct but it runs and nothing happens no errors or nothing. Here is the way I have it set up
Get Specified Fetch Items(that is linked to a shortcut)
    Get Fetch Folder Contents
Filter Fetch Items (By Mod Date)
Here is where I would like to add the move feature or delete but I can't get either to move the files or delete them
Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks Jim

    Hi Jim,

When you try to move or delete the files, do you get an error, or does just nothing happen?

A few things to keep in mind that might be causing problems:

    * The "Get Fetch Folder Contents" results will include the folder whose contents you are getting, so you need to filter it out by name (use a Filter Fetch Items action to filter out things whose name is not equal to the name of the folder in question). Otherwise, you'll get an error when Automator tries to move the folder into itself.

    * If you are trying to move the files to a subfolder of the folder the files are in, you likewise need to filter out the subfolder, or you will get an error (again, because Automator would try to move the folder into itself).

    * The folder you are trying to move the files to must already exist; the Move Fetch Items action will not create the folder for you.

Let us know if you're still having a problem after making adjustments based on this advice; and if you're getting an error, let us know what the error says.

    Thanks,

Hi Scott, I am not receiving an error. We have our server set up that all of the folders are customer names and they post there jobs into that folder. So it would be Customer 1 > Jobs Another folder called customer 2 and their jobs inside there. When they log in they only have access to the inside of that folder. I would do a filter for old mod dates but I don't want it to delete or move the Customer folders because if they didn't post anything in the specified time the main folder would be deleted or moved. Is there a way to tell automator to grab any file older than one month but only from the second tier where the jobs folders would be?

    Hi,

Just for clarification - are you trying to delete just files that the customers have uploaded, or are you hoping to delete folders they might have uploaded, too?

Would just deleting older files be acceptable?

    Thanks,

    Hi,

We've been thinking about your problem, and we have developed an Automator add-on for Fetch that should allow you to do what you want.

If you could please send an email to:

    bb at fetchsoftworks dot com

we'll send it to you and explain how to use it.

    Thanks,
