Can I completely remove my site from the Internet after I publish it? (2 posts)

    My website is not completely done, but I want to experiment with publishing it to make sure I understand the process and don't have any problems. After I publish it, can I completely remove it from the Internet? If so, how?

    Hi,

    After you publish it and test it, the first thing you would do to remove it from the Internet would be to delete all your website files from your server. Once you have deleted them off your server, they are no longer available on the web.

    If it is only up for a short time, and you do not tell anyone else about it or have anyone link to it, it is unlikely that it will be indexed by a search engine.

    You can learn how to keep your website from being indexed by Google here:

    <http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/topic.py?topic=8459>

    and some of the suggestions there will keep your site from being indexed by other search engines as well.

    An extensive discussion of how to keep websites private is beyond the scope of this forum You may want to ask your hosting provider for advice, or find a forum that is dedicated to webpage authoring and website issues.

    Thanks,
