Hi,
After you try to rename (or delete) the file and get the error message, could you please choose Fetch Transcript from the Window menu, copy the entire contents of the transcript window, and paste them here? We'll take a look and try to figure out what's going on.

Hi,
I would guess the problem is that the server doesn't like that you have spaces in the file name (some servers let you upload files with spaces in their names, but then won't let you do anything with those files). Have you been able to delete or rename files with spaces in their names before on this server?
Here's one thing to try: navigate to the "garden center" folder again, and then choose "Refresh File List" from the Directories menu. Then try to delete the file.
If that doesn't help, you'll need to contact the folks that run the server for help in removing the file (and you should ask them why they think you're having trouble deleting it, so you know what to avoid in the future).

Refreshing doesn't help. I've had no problems with other files using spaces in the name. The only difference is that the person who gave me the file gave it to me without the .extension at the end of the file name. I can download it from the ftp site fine and use it... I just can't get it off! Thanks anyway --

Hi,
The lack of an extension shouldn't matter.
It could be that there's some other funny character in the file name that isn't being shown over FTP. It sounds like you'll have to contact the server adminstrator to get it removed... sorry.

I have a file that cannot delete too - but for a different reason than the "File not found" message. I think it is because it doesn't have a .doc extension. Usually when I have a file on my desktop that won't open because it is missing the extension, I rename it with the extension and my program can open it fine. I tried this technique in our ftp site but it wouldn't let me add it. The same error just comes up again: "server file error: (my file name): the system cannot find the file specified" -- How do I get this file deleted???
