I created a website in iWeb '08. I published it to a folder under 'Sites' as a folder called 'Rainbow Signs'. In the 'Rainbow Signs' folder, all of the different parts of the site are listed such as 'services.html' or 'home.html' as well as some additional folders. I opened Fetch, made the connection to the domain (which I purchased through godaddy.com), selected 'Put' and highlighted every part and folder within the 'Rainbow Signs' site folder. Some of the materials are not however showing up on the website. Why is that? I received no error messages during the upload. Do I need to click into each sub-folder within the 'Rainbow Sings' site folder and upload that information separately?

Thank you in advance for your help!

    Hi,

No, you shouldn't need to upload each subfolder separately. When you select a folder to be uploaded, Fetch uploads the entire contents of the folder.

I would recommend that you try re-uploading your website by following our using Fetch with iWeb instructions (you'll want to follow the "iWeb 2.0.4 or earlier (iLife '08 or earlier)" instructions) and see if that fixes the problem.

Before doing that, you should probably delete the copy of the website on the server already in order to start fresh.

If you're still having a problem after that, let us know the address of your website and we'll take a look and see if we can figure out what the problem is.

    Thanks,

Thank you for the quick reply! I have done the first part of this with publishing it to a new folder on my desktop. I connected to Fetch and the transfer window is open. There are folders on there called 'stats', 'ssfm', and '_db_backups'. Which folder do I put the website files in? I'm not even sure what these folders are...

    Thanks again!

    Hi Megan,

You wouldn't want to put it inside any of those folders. It sounds like for your server, you should just drag your files and folder to the Fetch window instead of changing folders (not every server requires you to put webpage files inside a special folder).

    Thanks,

Alright I got it to upload and everything is on the website except for a couple of things. For instance, there is an album missing from two different pages(large format & sports), and one page isn't opening at all (wood/metal). Got any suggestions? If it'd help to look at the website it is www.rainbowsignssd.com
    Thank you!

When I click on the 'wood/metal' section, it gives an error message and so I checked the files in the transfer window for these particular pages. Here is what the address gives when you click on it in the website:
    http://www.rainbowsignssd.com/Rainbow_Signs/wood_meta_1./wood_metal.html

In the transfer window, these files are called wood_meta_1 and there is no . after the 1. If you delete the . after the 1, the page opens but no pictures are there!

Also, as I was clicking through the site, sometimes the 'Rainbow Signs' logo at the top shows up as a box with a ? in it. And other times photo albums show up one minute then are gone the next time I visit the page.

Did I just upload the information poorly??

    Hi Megan,

I do not believe you uploaded things incorrectly.

I see the problem with the Wood/Metal page; I'll come back to that.

I am not seeing the other problems you mention; the Rainbow Signs logo always works for me, and I see the pictures on the Wood/Metal page once I get there. I see two galleries on the Large Formats page, is that correct? If something is missing, it's not obvious. So I believe everything uploaded correctly with the exception of the problem with the link to the Wood/Metal page.

You may be seeing missing pictures due to your web browser showing you cached, out-of-date versions of your webpages instead of the current versions that you have just uploaded.

Web browsers keep copies of recently viewed webpages on your hard drive, so that they can load them quicker than reading them from the Internet again. They are supposed to notice when the pages have changed, and then load a new copy, but sometimes they make mistakes and continue to show you out-of-date copies. This often happens when you have just looked at a page, made an update to it, and then looked at it again, all within a short time.

    Try this in Safari:

    * Go to the Safari menu, and choose Empty Cache.
    * Safari will ask you if you're sure. Click the Empty button.
    * Then go to your website and view the pages to see if all the pictures look okay.

Now, coming back to the problem with the Wood/Metal page. I think there are two possibilities about what is going on there. FIrst, the slash in the name may be confusing either iWeb or your server; some servers do not like files or folders with slashes in the name. I think there also might be a space at the end of the name (which is hard to see). I would go into iWeb and rename that page to "Wood-Metal" (use a hyphen instead of a slash), and make very sure there is not an extra space at the very end of the name. Then I would try exporting and uploading the website again.

(And after you do that, empty your web browser cache again before viewing the pages, just to make sure.)

Let me know how it goes.

    Thanks,
