Cannot upload new files (9 posts)

    Hi there-
    I have encountered the same problem someone else posted recently - same message when I try to upload a file:

    Fetch could not put "apply.html" because the FTP server encountered an error accessing a file or folder. If you entered a file name, folder name, or URL, check that it is correct. Server responded: "apply.html: access is denied."

    I am on my home computer, and I have been able to access this site before and upload files without any issues. This time I am only able to upload a new file, but cannot change or delete a file that it already there. What's going on? I even tried turning off my firewall to see if that worked, and yes, I did check the PASV mode box. And I have tried it from a different computer through someone else's internet connection.

    Hi Kat,

    We'd like some more information to help diagnose the problem. Could you please do the following?

    * Quit Fetch.
    * Open Fetch again.
    * Connect to your server.
    * Try uploading a file.
    * After you receive the error, go to the Window menu, and choose Fetch Transcript.
    * Copy the entire contents of the transcript window, and paste them into a reply to this message.

    We'll take a look and try to figure out what's going on.

    Hi tugce,

    It appears that you are trying to upload to the "root" folder on your server; many servers do not allow that and require that your files go in a special folder. In your case, it looks like that would be the httpdocs folder.

    Try opening the httpdocs folder by double-clicking on it, and then uploading, and see if that works.

    Hi Kathleen,

    Thanks for the transcript. Everything looks okay, I don't see any reason why you should be encountering an error trying to upload that file. My best guess is there's something wrong with the server or your account has somehow gotten misconfigured; I would contact the company or people who run the server, describe the problem, and them to make sure there are no problems on their end.

    Hi Scott

    I don't know what is root folder or httpdocs folder
    I tried double clicking on it and it opens with acrobat pro. because it is a pdf
    then uploading and the problem is still the same
    Could you explain more specific

    Hi tugce,

    After you connect to your server with Fetch, you will see a list of folders in the Fetch file list window. One of them is labelled httpdocs.

    Double-click on the folder icon that has the word "httpdocs" next to it in the Fetch window.

    Then try uploading.
