I am on a network with an ADSL connection, the pc(in my neighbours house) is running a proxy. I put the proxy number in explorer/netscape/outlook and they all work fine, but fetch isnt working for me when I type in the same ip/port numbers. It just hangs and says
"no address can be found for that host name, make sure it is correct and the tcip is set correctly"

    suggestions please

What is the name of the proxy software your neighbor is running, and what Proxy Type have you selected in the Firewall section of Fetch Preferences? It might help to post the contents of the Fetch Transcript window after you try to connect (that window is listed in the Window menu).

    Thanks,

In order to get an FTP connection through our Windows Server on our office network, we have to set the following in the "Firewall" preference pane:

Proxy Type: Socks 4.3 (MS Proxy 2)
Proxy Host: (the windows server IP address)
    Port: 1080

Proxy User ID: (a valid username on the server)
Proxy Password: (the password for above username)

I don't know if this will help at all?

The only reason I chose port 1080 is a technote I found on www.macwindows.com that suggested it would work. It does for us.

From reading the WinProxy website it looks to me like you want to set the proxy type to "USER after logon", and check the "Use passive mode transfers (PASV)" box. Let me know if that doesn't work.

    Thanks,

hello, I am trying to configure the information, (fetch keeps giving me the message "fetch requires more info, go to the control panel and enter it") I am using os 9.2 and in the internet options I am only familiar with the section about the proxy config. I dont have a clue about ph host, finger host, whois host, gopher host, ect.

To my knowledge I havent been assigned a username/password, only a ip address...

Please tell me which internet values are the important ones..

    thanks again

You should enter the configuration information in Fetch's Preferences window, specifically the Firewall section of that window. You should only have to choose "USER after logon" from the Proxy Type pop-up and fill in the proxy host field.

    Thanks,

In that case I think you want "USER with no logon (aka USER user@host)".
