Can't edit textfiles with an external app (4 posts)

    Hi there,

I'm looking for FTP-software that can edit files in external applications and when I save the file in that application, it must be uploaded to my server.
I saw Fetch can do this, so I gave it a try. But when I open the preferences I can't select an external program to edit text-files. I would like to use Dreamweaver for that, but even the standard texteditor from OS X is not in the list.

How can I solve this so I can edit textfiles with Dreamweaver? Thanks in advance.

    Hi,

Fetch 5.3 can only use external text editors that support a special Apple Event. The supported text editors are BBEdit, TextWrangler, Smultron, SubEthaEdit, TextMate, CSSEdit, Page Spinner, skEdit, Tag, Tex-Edit Plus, AlphaX, Jedit X, mi, Pepper, and Style.

We will look into supporting Dreamweaver in a future release.

    Thanks,

As a follow-up for anyone who comes across this topic while searching for an answer to an editing question: starting with Fetch 5.5, now available, Fetch supports editing any kind of file with any external application that supports opening and saving that file type. So now Fetch 5.5 supports editing text or HTML files with Dreamweaver.
