I too am hung up getting files - the little dog just runs interminably !
I've toggled passive off & on, checked with my website server (its fine), zapped the PRAM, unplugged and replugged the dsl modem and router, checked out the preferences.

What could be the problem? TIA, I'm so frustrated.

Could you post the contents of the Fetch Transcript window when you get into that state with the endlessly running dog? Choose "Fetch Transcript" from the Window menu to open that window.

    Thanks,

Could you try unchecking the "Use passive mode transfers (PASV)" box in the Firewall section of Fetch Preferences? To see that checkbox, choose "Preferences..." from the Customize menu, then click on the Firewall tab.

    Thanks,

I unchecked passive, still "stuck" in the getting files phase. Only differnce is in a few minutes I get an error message that the connection timed out.

Could you post that transcript? My best guess is that a firewall is blocking the FTP data connection.

Jim, Thanks for all of your help!
Its now working again, I'm getting files. I had unchecked passive approximately 4,000 times over the past 5 days and it never helped. But now, inexplicably, it made it work.
    Appreciatively,
