    I'm using the correct username,password,etc. but I'm still unable to login to my server. The server support say they don't know why! Here is my info:
    Connecting to estheticeffect.com port 21 (Mac OS X firewall is off) (5/20/08 7:50:01 AM)
    Connected to 68.178.232.193 port 21 (5/20/08 7:50:01 AM)
    220 Microsoft FTP Service
    USER estheticEffect
    331 Password required for estheticEffect.
    PASS
    530 User estheticEffect cannot log in.

    What's wrong?

    Hi,

    We'd like you to try to connect to your server using the command line ftp client that's built into Mac OS X. This will help us determine whether this is a Fetch problem, or something else. To do this:

    * Open the Applications folder.
    * Open the Utilities folder.
    * Open the Terminal application.
    * At the prompt, type:

    ftp your-server-address

    * Replace "your-server-address" with the hostname for your server.
    * And then press the Return key.
    * Then the command-line ftp client will prompt you for "Name:"
    * Type your username and press the Return key.
    * Then you will be prompted to enter your password; enter your password and press the Return key. (The letters you type won't appear on the screen, for privacy.)
    * You'll get a response from the server at this point. Please copy the response, and paste it into a reply to this message.
    * Then you can exit the command-line ftp client by typing "quit" (without the quotes).

    Thanks,

    Scott McGuire

    Hi,

    Since both Fetch and the command line get the same error from the server - "User estheticEffect cannot log in" - this appears to be a problem with the server.

    Unfortunately, the only thing to do is to contact them and ask them to try harder to figure it out.

    Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.

    Thanks,

    Scott McGuire

    My problem is identical to 1alphamark. I did all the things you suggested to him and logged in successfully with the terminal program.

    My fetch program still failed to connect.

    I have the same problem and did everything you said to do with 1alphamark.
    Still can't log in with Fetch. Everthing is correct with server.

    Hi Gray1,

    Could you choose "Fetch Transcript" from the Window menu after you get an error, and post the contents of that window? Also, could you post the contents of the Terminal window after you ftp successfully with the command-line FTP program? Comparing the two may help us figure out what is going on.

    Thanks,

    Jim Matthews

    Hi Gray1,

    Thanks for the transcript.

    I believe the problem is that you are trying to connect using SFTP in Fetch, and the server only supports FTP. (You are using FTP in the Terminal.)

    So, in the Fetch New Connection dialog, before you connect, click the "Connect using" menu and choose "FTP" instead of "SFTP." Enter your hostname, username, and password as normal.

    Let us know if that fixes the problem or not.

    Thanks,
