    why does this happen and what can i do about it?

    It may be that this server does not support passive mode (possibly because of a firewall on the server side). I would recommend unchecking the "Use passive mode transfers (PASV)" box in the Firewall section of Fetch Preferences.

    Thanks for the question and the reply. This was happening to me also. Unclicking the PASV mode took care of the problem.
