    I just got FiOS installed. Previously n problems. Now I can't upload files to my webspace.

    I keep getting this:
    421 No Transfer Timeout (300 seconds): closing control connection.

    I attempted to load a file to ftp.fetchsoftworks.com (walking-the-dog.html) and I think it went fine. I shut off the computer and the modem for a couple minutes and then tried again. Same result.

    Hi John,

    We're sorry to hear you're having problems, and thanks for doing the comparison test with ftp.fetchsoftworks.com - that's useful. (Yes, it looks like walking-the-dog.html uploaded successfully to it.)

    Could you send us a full transcript of an attempt to upload a file to your webspace? That will give us more information to analyze.

    To do this:

    * Quit Fetch, if it's running.
    * Open Fetch again.
    * Connect to your server.
    * Try uploading again.
    * Go to the Window menu, and choose Fetch Transcript.
    * Copy the entire contents of the transcript window, and paste them into a reply to this message.

    Thanks,

    Scott McGuire

    Here's what I got:
    (I see one line that is interesting, it says "500 MACB not understood" ... don't know what that is, but sounds suspicious)
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi John,

    Thanks for the transcript.

    I see that you're connecting to a Verizon server - I assume you had Verizon service before you got FIOS?

    Could you try uploading to your site using another FTP client - such as Transmit or Interarchy - and let us know if it works? That will help us determine where the problem lies (with Fetch, or with the Verizon server or your new network hardware).

    Thanks,

    Scott McGuire

    Similar problem with Interarchy. I can see my files but I can't upload. It spins for a while and then it becomes obvious to me that it isn't working so I quit. This seems to have been precipitated by a hardware and billing change when I upgraded from DSL to FiOS.

    Hi John,

    Thanks for trying that.

    It's a little odd that you can upload successfully to ftp.fetchsoftworks.com but not your server; usually a hardware problem results in the same problems with all servers. I don't suppose you have a third server you could try uploading to? (I'm afraid we don't have a second test server that you can try.)

    Is your Mac connected directly to the FIOS modem, or do you have another router or wireless base station that you're connecting through?

    (Oh, and to answer something you asked earlier - the "MACB not understood" response from the server is fairly common and is almost certainly not related to this problem.)

    Thanks,

    Scott McGuire
