Can't upload folder to server (5 posts)

    Fetch won't allow folder"italian-AmericanLawyers_7-27-10 to load onto server. FTP server sent an unexpected response. Server responded: "Can't create directory: File exists"

    Hi,

    We'd like some more information to help diagnose the problem. Could you please do the following?

    * Quit Fetch, if it's running.
    * Open Fetch again.
    * Connect to your server.
    * Navigate to the server folder you are trying to upload to.
    * Go to the View menu, and choose Refresh.
    * Try uploading the problem folder again.
    * Then go to the Window menu, and choose Fetch Transcript.
    * Copy the entire contents of the transcript window, and paste them into a reply to this message.

    We'll take a look and see if we can figure out what's going on.

    Hi,

    Thanks for the transcript.

    It looks like the problem is that your folder has a space at the end of its name. Many FTP servers have problems with files or folders whose names include spaces.

    You should rename the folder on your Macintosh to remove the space at the end of the name (it's hard to see, since it's a space, but it's there).

    Then you should connect to the server, and delete the "Italian-AmericanLawyers_7-27-10_" folder that is on the server (it was created when the server attempted to deal with the space at the end of the name the last time you tried to upload).

    Then try uploading the folder again.

    Let us know if that does not fix the problem, or if you have further questions.
