To get acces to my cgi directory I have to set the permissions. For the moment I can't get it right. I still get the message:

You don't have permission to access /cgi/email.cgi on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

What ever I do I don't get it right. It must be simpel, may be someone could help me out.
    Many thanks in advance.

    Hi Corf,

It may be that you need to set permissions correctly on the CGI files themselves, not just the directory they reside in.

Generally the permissions on cgi files should be set to a UNIX equivalent of "755" - that is:

    Owner can Read, Write, Execute
    Group can Read, Execute
    Others can Read, Execute

Assuming you are using Fetch 5, you can find instructions for setting permissions on files in Fetch here:

    http://www.fetchsoftworks.com/FetchWebHelp/Contents/Tutorial/HowToSetPermissions.html

If you still can't access your cgis after setting those permissions, you should talk to the folks who run your server for further advice.

    Thanks,

    Hi Scott, thanks.
In the meantime I already found out, but there is another problem. On my site there is this cgi file but there is no gci script in it. Therefore I found a script called email.cgi made by Eric Morgan of Infomotions.
As far as I know I have filled in all the nessesairy protocals correctly. Still I get the 404 error. My provider doesn't give me a clue. All he says is: we work under unix/linux, that should be enough.

I have no experience at all with this matter and spent already many hours to find out how it is working. I understand that you must be able to write your own cgi script but that is rather complicated.

If you know more and you could, would like to help me, I owe you ;-)

    Thanks,

    Corf

    Hi Corf,

I'm afraid I'm not really familiar with cgi scripts (besides knowing what permission they should have!) and so I don't have any suggestions in that regard.

    Sorry, and good luck.
