Is there a way to change or add a new program to edit file with, it is set to bbedit but I would like to add Dreamweaver.

Anyone know if this is possible.

    Thanks

    Hi,

The "Edit" command in Fetch has a specific function - when you edit a file, Fetch opens it in the selected editor application so you can make changes to it, and then when you save the file in the application, it saves your changes back to the server instead of to your local hard drive.

Only certain applications include support for saving the file back to the server via Fetch, so Fetch only lists those applications as choices for editing applications. Unfortunately Dreamweaver does not support saving the files back to the server via the Fetch "Edit" command, so Fetch does not list it as a choice, and you cannot add it.

There are other editors besides BBEdit that support saving files back to the server. See the Edit help topic for a full list.

However, you can tell Fetch to open any kind of file in any other application, such as Dreamweaver, when you download it or double-click on it in Fetch. The difference is that any changes will be saved on your Macintosh, and you will have to upload the file back to the server yourself. This may do what you want.

    To do this:

    * Select a file of that type (e.g. select a .html file).
    * Click the Get Info button.
    * In the Transfer Options section of the info window, select "Save and open the file" in "After transferring a file like this" section.
    * Also in the Transfer Options section, choose the application you want (e.g. Dreamweaver) from the "Open files like this with:" menu. If the application you want is not listed, you can choose "Other" to find it.

Thanks, and let us know if you have further questions.

    Thanks again.

    Hi,

We're aware that folks would like to use other editors, so would like to add the ability to edit with any application at some point, but we don't have a timetable for when that will be available yet.

In the meantime, hopefully the two options I mentioned above will give you most of what you want.

    Thanks,

It is nice to see that you are looking into this, can't wait till this is availble.

I have been using fetch for about 5 years or so.

    Great product.

    Thanks
