I recently downloade a copy of Macro's Ultradev4 trial. Now i am not sure what the deal is but now when i connect with my server via fetch (Windows NT) My directory comes up in the file list window but under status it says "getting file list." and I keep getting a running dog. I have to then hit the stop buton and then "connected" comes up under the status. I never had to do this before, I would just hit connect, it would get the directory and pull up the file list automatically. This only happens with my NT server, when i try and get into my unix server it works fine. I get this same problem when i try and acces my server through BB Edit. Any ideas as to what may have caused this problem? and wht I can do to fix it? Im thinking there was some config file that macromedias install had overwritten somewhere...

I think it's just coincidence that you tried Ultradev around the time this problem appeared. What seems more likely is that the server administrator installed Windows NT Service Pack 6. That upgrade has a bug that causes the problem you describe. The fixes are to replace the tcp.sys file on the server with the one from Service Pack 5, or to upgrade to Windows 2000 Server.

    Yikes!

Is this the root of the problem I have? I'm not that expert in this field but have enclosed a copy of the transcript I get when trying to log on to an FTP server. I get the 'getting file list' & endless running dog too (he must be tired by now) it works ok under system 9.0 and fetch 3.0.

No, that's a different problem. I would recommend checking the "Use passive mode transfers (PASV)" box in the Firewall section of Preferences -- does that work?

This is the transcipt/problem I'm having in my posting: Trouble getting directory listing on NT (referring to AnyMac's posting) - PASV doesn't do anything unfortunately

No unfortunately the PASV mode doesn't work either.....

    AndyMac:

Changes to the "Use passive mode transfers (PASV)" setting apparentlly don't "stick" on Mac OS X if you have the "Use Internet Config" box checked. I would suggest unchecking "Use Internet Config" and then checking "Use passive mode transfers (PASV)". Does that help?

    AndyMac:

I'm afraid I'm stumped. Can you connect to the server with any other FTP client, such as Vicom's? If so I'd be curious to see a transcript.
