There are several FTP sites I use regularly without incident. One, however, allows connection but will not provide a directory. The site works from home or from OS 9.2 in the office but will not work with OSX. Any ideas? We've tried the usual PASV on/off and other firewall settings in Fetch to no avail.

Have you tried with PASV off and the OS X firewall (in the Sharing panel of System Preferences) turned off?

If not it would be useful to compare a transcript of a successful connection from the 9.2 machine and an unsuccessful attempt from the OS X machine. Choose "Fetch Transcript" from the Window menu to open the transcript.

    Thanks,

I have tried these suggestions. The connect is degrading to the point where, today, connection wasn't possible- the password failed. Is there any "Fetch memory" which would be causing this? Two months ago the username and password were changed for this site and this seems to coincide with the problems.

We are experiencing the same exact thing, having just switched to OS X from OS 9.

We are having difficulties trying to upload to a Cobalt RaQ ... it's the only server we've had difficulties with. All other servers work fine.

The problem occurs using other FTP clients, as well.

Our Web server administrator told us he'd tinker around with the issue but wouldn't have time for another week or so. Meanwhile, we're keeping an old OS 9 box around for the sole purpose of uploading files to the server.

    jtempkins:

Are you sure that the firewall is turned off on your OS X machine? To turn it off choose "System Preferences..." from the Apple menu, click on the Sharing icon, click the "Firewall" tab, and make sure the button says "Start" (if it says "Stop" click it to stop the firewall).

If that does not help could you post 2 transcripts again? This time please post the complete contents of the Fetch Transcript windows.

    Thanks,

We checked to ensure the Firewall is off. The dialog box states "Start" so it is off. Here are the transcripts from the UNSUCCESSFUL attempt:

    What's happening?

Are those complete transcripts? Fetch 4.0.3 transcripts should start with some information about the Fetch verson and system version.

Do you have a 3rd party firewall program installed (like Norton Personal Firewall or Norton Internet Security)?

    Thanks,

There is no third party firewall software installed on the Mac- just what ships with OS 10.3.4. Is there a change that our corporate firewall is causing the issue? If so, where does my IT guy need to look and for what?

    Posted 19 years ago #

  • Jim Matthews Administrator

I would think that a corporate firewall would block connections to the Mac OS 9 machine as well as the OS X machine. I would ask your IT guy to look at the transcripts from the OS X machine to see if he can tell why the connections aren't getting through to your Mac.

    Thanks,
