Could you post the contents of the Fetch Transcript window after you get that message? Choose "Fetch Transcript" from the Window menu to reveal the window.

    Thanks,

That server is dropping my connections too -- are you sure that's the right hostname? Have you asked freeserver.net whether their service is currently available?

    Thanks,

That name (with .com instead of .net) doesn't work for me either. You can tell them that their server does not appear to be responding.

i got this problem as soon as i switched from a 56k dialup connection to adsl.. i can't ftp to my own isp's 'webspace' server... i get the message "error:the server dropped the connection(it may be to busy)"... i strongly suspect that if i tried with dialup i'd get a connection (like i did yesterday on dialup) ... but why do we get this problem?

The server administrator is blocking connections from people who aren't using their dialup service. That's basically a business policy decision on their part; it doesn't have anything to do with Fetch.

I have the same problem using fetch for about two months now. When I was using it as a trial, it perfectly worked fine even when I was using adsl modem. After, bought the license, it just doesn't worked anymore. Everytime I tried to make a connection, it gets dropped. I spent ages and ages discussing this problem with BT openworld, and they can't find the problem. If they are blocking connection from people not using their dial up service, why can I make a connection using FTP commander in my PC? I hope you can shed light into this, because it is a lot of hassle switching from Mac to PC everytime I have to update our website.

    Acanthus:

Could you post the contents of the Fetch Transcript window after trying to connect, and a transcript from FTP commander too? Is your PC connected to the same DSL line as your Mac?

I should note that Fetch does not do anything differently when it's in trial mode (other than ask you to purchase a license); the fact that things broke around the time you purchased a license is just a coincidence.
