I am having problems connecting to an FTP site. Whenever I try to connect it says that connection attempt timed out. I have checked with the server and all of the information I am entering is correct. Proxy type is set to none. If you have any suggestions that would be great.

Could you choose "Fetch Transcript" from the Window menu and post the contents after you dismiss the error message?

    Thanks,

Are you entering "ftp" in the Host field of the New Connection dialog, and "1" in the Non-standard port field? You should enter the name of the server you want to connect to in the Host field; you would usually get that from the company that is selling you web hosting services. You should leave the Non-standard port number field blank.

    Thanks,

I am having a similar problem. Others can access the server, but they are on a network, whereas I'm operating on high speed cable. Does that have anything to do with it?

No I am entering a totally different ftp site address but that's all that comes up when I look at the transcript. The site address that I'm entering is the site address from the server.

I am experiencing the same issue and have attempted the same remedies with no success.

porcherc: Could you post the contents of the Fetch Transcript window after you see the problem?

TBJWAPC: Could you download Fetch 5 from http://fetchsoftworks.com and try that? If it doesn't work could you post the contents of Fetch Transcript?

    Thanks,

This is the message that I receive. I have attempted checking/unchecking multiple configurations. I am using Tiger w/ Fetch 5.0 and have not been able to connect.

    -----

Fetch could not get the file list because there was a timeout trying to establish a passive mode data connection.
A server firewall might be blocking passive mode (PASV) transfers. Ask the server administrator for help, or try unchecking the "Use passive mode transfers" box in the General pane of the Preferences.

Additionally, I AM able to make a connection if I turn off the firewall.

porcherc: It looks like the server does not support passive mode, and for you to use active mode you need to turn off your OS X firewall. For more information on this topic, see the "Active and Passive FTP" topic in Fetch Help.
