I have a vendor using Fetch 4.0.3 on OS X 10.3.2 who's having problems connecting to our FTP server. I had her select the option 'Use passive mode transfers (PASV)' on the Firewall tab and she gets the error message: the server dropped the connection (it may be too busy)
When she unchecks the option, it never connects.
Unchecking the option seems to have worked for other vendors using Fetch. All these vendors are users outside of our company. Any idea why this one user can't connect while the others can? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks...

If things aren't working with PASV unchecked one possibility is that the user has the OS X firewall enabled. She can turn that off in the Sharing section of System Preferences.

If that does not help I would be interested to see the contents of the Fetch Transcript window after the error.

    Thanks,

I'm also having a similar connection issue with Fetch 4.0.3 running on my Mac G5 OSX. On a G3 running OS 9.2, no problems. With OSX on the G5, Fetch can't connect. Little running dog just keeps on runnin'!

I've tried with Passive Mode checked and unchecked. Firewall is turned off in System Prefs.

Fetch transcript shows the "Connecting to..." line with the proper name of the server, port 21 and the date time, but since no connection occurs, that's it. Appreciate any help you guys may offfer.

jumbocircuspeanuts.brickriver.com is not responding to FTP connections. I would contact the server administrator; there seems to be some problem with the server (or perhaps the firewall it is behind).

    Thanks,

I am having a similar problem: G4, 10.3, Fetch 4.0.3, "Error: There is no host by that name." I've tried all the suggestions listed here (Firewall off, Proxy serve, passive both on and off) and still cannot connect to any of my sites. I know the site info is ok, because I can connect on my partner's PC (but don't want to).
