constant stalling on large file uploads (10 posts)

    unable to upload large files fully without them stalling almost all of the way through. What to do?

    Hi,

    Try checking the "Contact server during long transfers" checkbox in the Obscure pane of the Preferences and see if that helps.

    If the problem is that files always stop after the same amount of data has been transferred, regardless of the file, check to make sure you have not run out of room in your account on the server.

    Scott, I spoke too soon. It is an 89 Mg. file and it has stalled at 38Mg., and 16Mg. and 72Mg. points of download. What do you think?

    Hi,

    Could you please post the transcript the next time a large file fails to transfer? After the transfer stalls, choose Fetch Transcript from the Window menu, copy the entire contents of the transcript window, and paste them here? We'll take a look and see if we can figure out what's going on.

    Also, Fetch 5 has both resume download and resume upload commands, so when a transfer stalls, you can continue transferring from where the transfer left off, instead of starting over from the beginning, you may find them helpful for this situation. (Click on the linked command names for more information about each.)

    Hi,

    Unfortunately, it looks like your server does not support resuming uploads.

    Could you show us a transcript from an upload where you are not trying to resume the upload? (Choose "Replace existing file" instead of "Resume upload" from the "If a file already exists" menu in the Put dialog.)

    Hi Jack,

    Thanks for the additional transcript.

    Unfortunately, it looks like problems on the server end, or transient network issues, are causing the uploads to get interrupted. There's not much Fetch can do about those.

    I'd try and see if you can connect to the server using SFTP, that might be more reliable and resume uploads might be supported over SFTP. Otherwise, I'd talk to the server adminstrator or maintainer (which may be your Internet provider) about getting the server to support resume uploads for FTP.
