DHCP issues with Fetch 4? (10 posts)

When using Fetch 4.0.1 on a Mac G4 cube accessing the internet via DHCP Protocol over a PacBell DSL modem, sites that are otherwise always available through Fetch on other G4s begin to get connected to....then after about 5 or 6 files show up...the dog just runs and runs...and sometimes a message "cannot make data connection" comes up. Have been using Fetch 3.0nd 4.0b7 for years with no problems of this sort. Only difference on this particular computer is the DHCP protocol over a Home Portal (PacBell) router/modem. I see your suggestion that I should try changing the pasv settings in preferences/firewall---any other ideas too?

It could be a PASV issue. If that doesn't fix things I'd want to see the contents of the Fetch Transcript window after you get the error (it's listed in the Window menu).

Thanks for the transcript. Can you upload that file to the incoming directory on ftp.fetchsoftworks.com (leave the User ID and Password fields blank in the New Connection window)?

Also, what model Mac are you using? And if you are using an ethernet card, do you know what brand?

Hi Jim,

Tried to connect to ftp.softworks.com but to no avail -- the pup just keeps on running.

I'm on an iMac 266 with the stock 10/100Base-T ethernet connector.

Our FTP site is ftp.fetchsoftworks.com -- did you try that or ftp.softworks.com? Could you post the contents of the Fetch Transcript window?

In those transcripts the upload failed because there was already a file by that name (my guess is that it was from a previous upload attempt). I checked and the file had been uploaded correctly.

So I'm not sure why uploads are working to ftp.fetchsoftworks.com but not to ftp-dom.earthlink.net. My next suggestion would be to try a different FTP client, such as Vicom's (www.vicomsoft.com) to see if the problem is specific to Fetch.
