When I go to download a file, it starts transfering in around 300KB/s and after 15 seconds to 3 minute later (on a 30mb file or larger), it drops all the way down to 150KB/s, stays there for a few seconds and then drops to 15KB/s till it errors out. The error message reads:

Fetch could not get "File Name" because the FTP server encountered an error accessing a file or folder.
Server responded: "Connection closed; transfer aborted."

Anyone have this same issue? Anyone know how to correct this?

Up untill about 2 weeks ago, I never had this issue. No computer changes, server changes, nothing. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi,

Are you trying to download the same file each time? Or do you have the same problem with any sizeable file you try? Do smaller files transfer okay?

Here are a couple of things you can try:

    * If you're running Fetch 4, try toggling the setting of the "Use passive mode transfers (PASV)" checkbox in the Firewall section of Fetch Preferences (if it's on, turn it off; if it's off, turn it on).

    * Also, if you're running Fetch 4, you may want to try Fetch 5 to see if the problem goes away.

    * If you're already running Fetch 5, try checking the "Contact server during long transfers" checkbox in the Obscure preferences pane.

If you have made no changes and these suggestions don't help, this may be a server problem. But after you have the problem again, you can post the transcript here (go to the Window menu, choose Fetch Transcript, and copy the contents of the window) and we'll look at it to see if we can offer further suggestions.

    Thanks,

    Thanks Scott for your reply.

Sometimes it works... sometimes it does not. No matter what the file size. Of course, the smaller the file size, the better the chances of it making it through.

Is it a PC / MAC issue? My IT guy here thinks it to be a MAC issue. He can download the files at the same time, from the same office, but on his PC, just fine.

I had the issues on Fetch 4 so I upgraded to Fetch 5 hoping it would possibly solve the issue. I have my preferences set to PASV with no change... both ways.

Here is the error transcript you asked for:

I can't think of any reason for the transfer to be terminated like that. My best guess is that it's a server problem, but that's difficult to pin down. You might try downloading files from ftp.fetchsoftworks.com (leave the Username and Password fields blank when you connect); do you see the same problems there?

You also might try resuming the download (choose Resume Download..." from the Remote menu). Does that help?

    Thanks,
