Dropped connection (6 posts)

I am running on a Mac Book Pro with 10.4.10 on a dialup connection using Fetch 5.2. It is a sure bet that when my system goes into maximum power savings mode that Fetch will stop uploading. For example, last night I went to upload ten 2.4mb files. When I came back to my system this morning I found the Fetch icon bouncing in my Dock and only the first file completely uploaded. The second one got 2mb in and the rest weren't uploaded. Fetch reported it could not communicate with the server. This is pretty consistent behavior.

I thought it was tied to the hardrive going into sleep mode, but even with that disabled it doesn't help. It doesn't appear to be my connection is being dropped since I've had no problems with Mail, Safari, and even Fetch (downloading) going for hours and hours with the system in sleep mode. It seems to be only Fetch uploading that is a problem.

If you can think of anything for me to note for you, I'd be more than happy to.

    Hi Steve,

You said in your post in another thread that you were going to upgrade to Fetch 5.2.1; that's a good thing to try first. Please let us know if that helps.

Also, could you describe to us exactly what mean when you say "the system goes into maximum power savings mode"? What are your Energy Saver settings?

    Thanks,

    Hi Scott,

I haven't had a chance to download 5.2.1 yet, but I will and will report.

My settings are NEVER for the computer to sleep when inactive, 15 MIN for the display to sleep when inactive, and PUT HARD DISK TO SLEEP WHEN POSSIBLE checked. I've tried it unchecked, but that doesn't work. I'm also uploading from the Mac Book's harddrive, not a peripheral.

For the other OPTIONS I have all checked except RESTART AUTOMATICALLY...

If there is anything else I can tell you, please let me know! Like I said, downloads don't cut out and no other program I have that moves files to/from cuts out on me either (specifically Safari, Mail, and Software Update).

    Thanks,

    Steve

    Hi Steve,

    Thanks for the additional information.

So what you're experiencing is as soon as your computer dims the screen (at 15 minutes), Fetch stops uploading?

If this happens to you again with Fetch 5.2.1, could please send us a transcript? This may provide more information about why the upload is failing.

To do this, after your upload stops, choose Fetch Transcript from the Window menu, copy the entire contents of the transcript window, and paste them into a reply to this message.

We'll take a look and try to figure out what's going on.

    Thanks,

    Hi Scott,

Last night I had a timeout downloading. Hadn't experienced that before. It was on the 6th file of about 10 files total. It got to about 98% on the file it was working on then timed out.

See, that's the thing I can't figure. Fetch loses its connection long after my laptop has gone into power savings mode. In other words, from a user standpoing it is losing the connection for some random reason. Few things are random in software, so I know it is just a perception :)

In fact, this is why I haven't downloaded and played around with 5.2.1 yet. We just launched a software product this morning after 3 years of development. I have no sleep and poor hygine, so I need to take care of those two things first before I have a chance to catch up on stuff like this! But I will do as you requested because I would like to get this fixed up. Plus, you guys are based in New Hampster and that makes us neh-buhs, ayuh!
