I would check that the "Proxy type" pop-up menu in the Firewall section of Preferences is set to "None". If that is the case, could you post the contents of the "Fetch Transcript" window (choose "Fetch Transcript" from the Window menu) after you dismiss the error message?
Thanks,
Jim Matthews

I had exactly the same problem using 10.3.7 which was solved by setting my proxy preference to "none" - thanks Jim.
Now I keep getting the following message (over and over again):
Error: the server dropped the connection (it may be too busy)Is this a true reflection of what's happening?

Could you choose "Fetch Transcript" from the Window menu and post the contents (after you dismiss the error message and New Connection dialog)?
Thanks,

I'm using OSX 10.3.2 and get this error message when I'm home using Cox high speed internet but not when I'm a work going in through the network. Cox doesn't have a clue. Any thoughts?

I used to know how to deal with this in Mac OS 9.x but I'm using OSX and dunno.

I'm guessing that you don't want to use that proxy server for FTP; it is probably a web-only proxy. So I would recommend settiing the "Proxy Type" pop-up menu in the Firewall section of Fetch's Preferences window to "None".
Thanks,

I recently upgraded my system from OS 10.2 to 10.3.7. Fetch was working in the old system, but now when I try to put a file, I get the message: "Error: There is no host by that name." I have double-checked the host, user ID and password info, and it is correct. Another machine in our office, also running 10.3.7, runs Fetch fine. However, I would like to fix my copy so that I don't have to interrupt others to transfer files. Help!
