Error number -1, unable to connect to FTP (5 posts)

I am trying to remotely support a client who cannot connect to our FTP.
They are using Fetch on a Mac OS X 10.5.8

    They've said:
"It acts like it's trying to connect and after while it stops and pops up "Error number –1." "

The FTP site is accessible both internally and externally using Windows Explorer and FileZilla. They've been able to access the site previously using Fetch using the same credentials.

Does anyone know what this error code means?

Will likely get them to reinput credentials/reinstall etc initially, but if there's any specific information available re: this error code that would be great.

    Hi,

Error number -1 means that Fetch cannot find the server the user asked it to connect to. The most likely reason for this is that your client has entered an incorrect hostname. Another possible reason would be there is a network problem between you and the client that is preventing them from connecting to your server. And sometimes it means the server is down, but you say you've ruled that out already.

(This error also indicates that your client is using a very old version of Fetch - every version of Fetch released since 2005 gives much more useful errors in these situations.)

Please let us know if you have any further questions.

    Thanks,

    Thanks again for your reply.

For others' reference, the client advised they couldn't access the FTP due to a firewall issue at their end which they are working on fixing.

    Cheers
