Feature Request - Preserve modification date on upload (16 posts)

    Hello,

Under "Fetch Preferences > Obscure" you kindly provide an option to preserve the modification dates of files when downloading to the Mac. I find this very useful to quickly identify different versions, including for backup information.

I would very much also like to preserve modification dates whenever uploading files from the Mac. Is there already a way to do this with Fetch? If not, I would like to strongly request this feature.

    Thanks for a great product!
    Eric.

    Hi Eric,

    Thanks for the feedback.

No, there is currently not a feature to preserve modification dates when uploading files with Fetch, but it's on the list of features to consider for future versions.

    Thanks,

    Scott,

I'll just add my hope that it's somewhere near the top of the list. In fact, in a sense, preserving modification dates on download are meaningless without it. Those "modification dates" are just the dates those files were uploaded.

It would be fantastic if the preservation goes in both directions (and it's been an irritation that they're not).

Thanks for being open to this.

I'm astonished that Fetch does not preserve the file modification date but instead displays the upload date. File synchronization programs depend on the file mod date to determine if the file has changed. PLEASE include that feature in the next release. Thanks.

I've been forced to use Cyberduck which does preserve modification dates on upload. Fetch not doing this is really disappointing. I had to re-upload an 8GB website when I discovered this. Really lame. Hard to believe in fact for such a mature program.

    Hello Again,

Since I started this thread over one year ago, I'm thrilled to see that it finally ends with a positive result since the just released version 5.7 of Fetch can now preserve the modification dates on both download and upload!

Thanks again for a great product,
    Eric.

I have Fetch version 5.7 and have NOT found a way to get it to preserve the modification dates on upload. It preserves them on download, but not on upload. What's the secret?

    Hi Delane,

There are some FTP servers that do not provide a way to set the modification date of a file, and so make it impossible for Fetch to preserve modification dates on upload. It sounds like your server is one of these. I would recommend contacting the server administrator, and asking for that support.

I believe it's obscurely located under the "obscure" tab in Fetch's preference. Uncheck the box for "Do not preserve modification dates." I just tested and it worked for me. Good luck.

    Jim -

I was excited to see the quick response, but we just put your theory to the test, and the server is not the problem. My colleague, who is working on the same project as me, just verified that WS_FTP preserves the file data on upload. I'd really like to have a solution.

Sorry to the folks at Fetch, but someone has already mentioned Cyberduck here. That's what I've used with great success before Fetch added the feature. If my earlier comment about the preference doesn't solve it either, you could try downloading a trial version of Cyberduck as a reference. If you still don't get results, then maybe it really is outside the FTP software somewhere.

    Hi Delane,

Thanks for that information. I'd love to figure out how WS_FTP is doing that, so Fetch can do it as well. Would you be able to send a transcript of a WS_FTP upload to that server?

    Thanks,
